![]() ![]() ![]() The combo sounded very sterile, the Wilson’s are now matched with a Macintosh tube amp, sound great, dynamic at reasonable volumes and being less then 10 feet away. I recently was pushed hard to match benchmark with my Wilson tunetot’s that are in my nyc space. Specially listening up close you need and amp that produces dynamics at reasonable volumes not extreme volumes and power. I understand they are an “H” amp which they claim combines class AB with D, which I find them sounding better then class D but more like a sterile class AB. Very detailed, perfect black background but no emotion or macro dynamics, great micro dynamics. I’ve also listen to Benchmark amps on three occasions now, my local hifi store loves pushing them, I personally found them to be anything but “dynamic”. I heard the original version of the ATC SCM 11, great speakers, I wound up buying the LS50 anniversary edition instead but I remember 11’s as being dynamic. The ATCs don't sound bad by any means, they just don't deliver the dynamics I'm used to hearing. Maybe it's just a case of my ears being used to a different sound signature. This setup produced an unlistenable amount of hiss with the Fortes. They sounded better when I used the Rogue Cronus Magnum III as a preamp driving a Peachtree Nova 300 as a power amp, but I got a fair amount of hiss with that setup. I also tried the ATCs in my main system (details in profile) and they sounded uninspiring compared to Forte IIIs, which are very dynamic and "front row". In case it's helpful: I used this same setup with original LS50s in place of the ATCs and I enjoyed the sound. The Benchmark is rated for 100WPC and is believed to have more "real world" power. I'm listening at low levels - 55 to 60 DB. I've read that ATC speakers are unforgiving of partnering equipment, but I don't believe the RME/Benchmark combo to be poor quality. Depending on my seating position, my ears are on axis with the tweeter, or slightly above them. It is toed in to match the listening angle of the right speaker. The left speaker is 12" farther from my head than the right speaker. It is coupled to the speaker stand with four dots of BluTack. The left speaker is on a speaker stand next to the desk, corner loaded by the same wall and the side of a bookcase. The right speaker is resting on my desk to the right of a large monitor, effectively corner loaded by a wall behind the monitor and books on a bookcase. Regas are easy to partner.I'm auditioning some new gear for my office/desk system, and I'm interested in some advice from people familiar with ATC speakers.ĪQ Type 4 10' (the older version with braided covers) Broadly speaking, Spendors are not difficult to drive but need amplifiers with good bass control/damping factor because of those (relatively) underdamped plastic cones. Shame, they are both special products in their own right. Can't comment on the B&W's.įor Spendor and Rega is not a very popular in my country (Hong Kong), please also kindly advice those models is easy to drive? Personally though I can't get my head around the shortcomings of this speaker (ATC 11 and its little offspring, which I actually prefer), namely an inability to sound nicely open and punchy at low volumes and their rather 'matter of fact' presentation, a bit soulless I guess. Quality as always more important than quantity. They are relatively inefficient so benefit from a little bit of power but even a rega brio was able to make some decently powerful noises with them. which have at least 100W output, is this correct? Especially for ATC SCM11, people advice this speaker will only be good when the pairing Amp. However, some Hi Fi sales people in my country advice that ATC SCM11 and B&W 805S are difficult to drive. If you can I'd advise have a listen mate. Some more good news, its only £500 or a bit less with discount. ![]() The footprint/height is about the same as a small standmount with stands so no difference there. Its a tiny floorstander and one of the few speakers that does'nt (sometimes) sound boomy with the 8vs2, and it really is the only slight criticism I personally would level at what otherwise is a great amp. Open, punchy, refined with a lovely sweet treble. Countless times have I heard the cyrus'es with the companies R3/R5 and have never found them wanting in any way. In a friends hifi retail outlet we regularely pair the cyrus 8vs2 and player with totems/dynaudios/ushers/MA/B&W/Missions etc., depending if an audition is about to take place or if its just us playing around and the speakers that always stand out as an almost perfect (is anything?) match are Rega's offerings. Ok, I go along with all the previous suggestions but like to add one, although with one caveat, its a floorstander but read on if you can. I've had ruark myself (sabres) and remember the prologue though its been a long time since I've heard a pair. ![]()
